The Royal Canadian Mint brings functionality and numismatic artistry together once again with The Sundial 1 oz Silver Coin, an interactive collectible crafted in 99.99% pure silver. Following the popularity of the Mint’s 2024 The Sundial, this new interpretation turns its attention to exploration, navigation, and discovery.

The reverse is arranged like an elegant navigational instrument. Roman numerals mark the hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., while botanical motifs and an acanthus-leaf flourish frame a stylized globe. At the centre, a detailed compass rose reinforces the design’s connection to exploration and the historic relationship between navigation and the measurement of time.

Its defining feature is a raised, rhodium-plated gnomon that transforms the coin into a functional sundial. Place the coin on a level surface in direct sunlight with the gnomon pointing toward true north, and the shadow cast across the engraved base provides an approximation of local solar time.

Crafted from 1 oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is housed in a specially designed taller capsule to accommodate the dimensional gnomon. It is presented in a Royal Canadian Mint clamshell with a serialized certificate.
